Passing the baby around

One of the most surprising joys I have found in being a new mother is the process of introducing Una to new people. There is a silent pride in handing over a little human body that Tom and I made from scratch. This weekend a handful of Punky holders stuck out from the rest for very different reasons:

Generational:
Grandpa -
Need I say more? There's 4 generations in this photo, sounds cliche but the guy crashed in a bomber jet in Oiwa Jima for shits sake! Watching G pa wave at the baby and having him tell me that meeting her made his birthday bash the best one was crazy cool.

Mortality:
Auntie Mary Ellen -
This was a bittersweet meeting. Watching our beloved cancer sick auntie holding our new baby was amazing. I was so glad to have made it to Cali in time for her to meet the little one. So strange how new life leads us to think about the cycle that always comes to an end at some point. In a strange way Una seemed bigger than Auntie Mary Ellen, she seemed strangely healthy and virile next to her frail body, the love that was exchanged was a real awesome sight!

Drunken:
Josh -
What can I say? Drunken Josh scaring the baby made life worth living. The real gem was when Josh told Tom, who was holding the baby, that he wished he could trade her places. Now we aren't quite sure what he meant, but we chose not to question him.
